How everything began…
Following the Covid-19 Pandemic, the world entered a period of economic downturn and civil unrest. Opportunistic actors pounced on their less wealthy neighbors and densely populated countries like China and India started to consider military action just to fend off starvation. This would lead to conventional skirmishes between great and small powers alike, and ultimately, global nuclear war in the Autumn of 2019. As a player in this apocalyptic adventure, you are a refugee, tasked by the American Resettlement Commission with repopulating the wastes. It's on you and the other survivors of the catastrophe to plant old-world senses of civilization, morality, and American idealism in the new American frontier. Your interpretation of this task is up to you of course... Will you become a settlement-terrorizing bandit, a legionnaire in the new empire, or a priest in the new state church? What was America meant to be, or what deserves to survive? Through new conflict, diplomacy, productive industry, and careful planning, you and the other refugees will decide this land's future.

The outbreak of a new virus; the “Gorilla Flu” seals off most countries, causing destabilization.

China and Russia enter a war against the United States over disputes in Ukraine, the South Pacific, and India. Some NATO-aligned countries refuse to assist.
World War 3
Nuclear war breaks out during a naval engagement near Taiwan. The latest weapons of mass destruction bring global catastrophe.
Now…
Some heads of state, philanthropists, and scientists gather together to create the American Resettlement Commission, tasking refugees with repopulating the American West.
